Texas

We are on the road again. The Remsberg children are absorbed in "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead," or maybe "Finding Nemo."

It rains, HARD. It rained hard the day before, when the Remsbergs used up one of their lives in the Oncoming Mud-Flinging Car of Death episode. This is the kind of rain that makes people drive at 25 miles an hour for a while until they pull off at a gas station where they can go inside and talk to others about how hard it is raining. Louisiana has a lot of weather.

We will always remember our visit to the Alamo. We spend the night in San Antonio, and pull into the city early, before it reaches 100 degrees. The children learn about secular saints and relics, and see that this is, once again, a site that attracts pilgrims. We are surprised to discover that there were many Europeans defending the Alamo -- Germans, Danes, Welshmen, Irish -- and that there were survivors: the women and children, who saw their menfolk butchered.

Edwin uses this photo as an opportunity to play a nasty trick on Virginia, and then memorializes it for all time by placing it in this blog.

We amble along the Riverwalk, play Poohsticks on the bridge, and eat fresca Mexican food al fresco.
