Mississippi

We arrive in Oxford, Mississippi, to worship at THE SHRINE.

Edwin assumes a pose worthy of the site. We are at Faulkner's home, Rowan Oak.

Becky finds that she is simpatico with him -- Faulkner was passionately fond of his show horses -- and she tours the stables.

This is the office that he added to the house, where he wrote his later works. (Edwin's hands were shaking as he took this picture.) He scribbled the plot outline all around the room, in pencil and china marker; you can see the beginning of it on the right side of the photo. His writing was very small and even.

The mantel in his bedroom: "64" is a number from a horse show. I don't think that's why Edwin was interested in this shot, though.
